Broadcast Journalism
While I do not focus on broadcast journalism, I understand its importance. Telling stories through video or podcast is a simple way to engage your audience. Additionally, while written stories include important opinions and reporting, sometimes they are incapable of telling the full story.
"Midtown Talent Show allows students to express creativity"
I created this video to cover my school's talent show last year. It was important to do it in video form to capture the creativity and full range of talent shown by each participant. If it had been a written story, it would only tell the story of the talent show, rather than showing it. This was my first multimedia; it taught me how to edit clips. I also learned how to do filmed interviews with some really interesting people.
Multimedia Process
As a staff, we have editors dedicated solely to multimedia. We also have cycles where everyone is required to make a video or podcast. This keeps a steady stream of videos and podcasts published on The Southerner.
